What is Genie 3?

Google DeepMind's general-purpose world model — text prompt in, real-time explorable environment out, at 20-24 fps, consistent for a few minutes. No public API, no open-source release. Access is through Project Genie only.

What is Odyssey-2?

Odyssey's general-purpose world model — text (and image) prompt in, a continuously-streamed interactive video world out, at roughly 20 fps. Unlike Genie 3, Odyssey publishes a real, documented API (JavaScript and Python SDKs, its own API License Agreement) for embedding the model into other applications, not just a first-party demo.

Access and playability

Both are publicly accessible today through a first-party web demo, with no account tier or payment required just to try the experience itself (commercial deployment terms are a separate question — see below).

Developer access — the real difference

This is where the two genuinely diverge. Odyssey-2 has a live, documented API with SDKs for building it into a separate product. Genie 3 does not currently offer any public API — Project Genie is the only way to use it, and there is no way to embed Genie 3's output into an external application today.

Commercial use

Neither company has published clear commercial-use terms QuantWorlds could independently verify at the time of writing — both rows are recorded as not verified rather than assumed. Odyssey's API documentation does reference an API License Agreement governing use, but the specific commercial terms within it were not confirmed during this research pass.

Which has playable Worlds on QuantWorlds?

Genie 3 is linked to Project Genie, which requires a paid Google AI Ultra subscription — not currently verified playable in QuantWorlds' hands-on sense. Odyssey-2 has no World currently linked in the QuantWorlds catalogue either. See Playable Worlds for what's actually confirmed playable today.

Which should you explore?

If you want to build a real product on top of a world model today, Odyssey-2's documented API is the concrete path Genie 3 doesn't currently offer. If you specifically want DeepMind's own research direction — Genie 3 is the one to try, with the understanding that it's a first-party demo experience, not an integration point.
